In the wintertime especially, my hair craves oil — you know, much like many of us crave warm, cozy beverages and loungewear when the cold weather hits. The one difference? My hair actually needs oil because it's so dry and brittle from the harsh temps and lack of moisture in the air. As of late, Olaplex's No. 7 Bonding Oil has been your girl's saving grace. Shine-giving and completely non-greasy, it's the perfect hair oil for folks with fine strands like mine.
Like the rest of Olaplex's products, the No. 7 Bonding Oil contains the brand's patented bond repairing technology, which helps to strengthen brittle hair while protecting against breakage. Additionally, it's made with vitamin and essential fatty acid-rich grape seed oil, as well as fermented green tea oil, the latter of which aids in absorption. Other ingredient highlights include dimethicone — a great conditioning agent that minimizes frizz — sunflower seed oil, and moringa seed oil.
Consistency-wise, this oil is very lightweight; however, it's still incredibly nourishing so it's ideal for many hair types — including both fine and coarse. I love that it's yet to weigh my hair down or make it look greasy, which is something I've experienced with countless other oils on the market. Oh, and have I mentioned it smells sublime? I can't put my finger on the exact scent, but it's subtly fruity and tropical, without being too overpowering or sweet.
As for how I use it, well, I either run a few drops through my hair when it's wet or damp to help reduce breakage and improve manageability, or I add a dime-sized dollop to my hair when it's dry and looking frizzier than usual. Sometimes I do both for maximum hydration and protection against the #elements (i.e. weather, styling, brushing, etc.).
I don't use much heat on my hair since it's so fragile, but if you're someone who uses a blow-dryer or flatiron every day, I highly recommend this oil as it provides thermal protection up to 450° Fahrenheit. Additionally, it's a solid treatment to have in your toolkit if you're someone who colors their hair often, or if you're trying to grow your hair oil.
