Best supplements for radiation exposure: The iodine supplement proven to protect the body

Radiation exposure could lead to major digestive imbalances in the body. Blood alteration and even the destruction of many cellular structures in the body’s key organ and tissue systems overtime have been reported. Low level exposure to radiation also affects the circulatory system by reducing lymphocytes which are a type of white blood cell. Taking this supplement could help protect the body against the harmful effects of radiation. What is it?

Common signs of low-level radiation exposure include fatigue, headaches, nausea and dry itchy skin.

In extreme cases, signs in the body could include brain damage, memory concerns, mood changes and reduced listening capacities.

Exposure to low levels of radiation over a long time may increase the likelihood of developing leukaemia and certain cancers.

With these worrying side effects, protecting yourself is imperative and taking a potassium iodine supplement can help.

What is potassium iodide?

Potassium iodide can prevent the accumulation of cesium-137 and weaken the damage caused by radiation exposure.

In fact, getting enough iodine is a good first step in preventing retention of radioactive cesium-137.

That said, the potassium one gets from one’s diet may not be enough. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) potassium iodide can play a major role in protecting the body and thyroid gland after internal contamination, as in the example of the Japanese nuclear reactor explosion in Fukishima.

Potassium iodide is the best form of potassium to use for radiation exposure.

The Mayo Clinic said: “The severity of signs and symptoms of radiation sickness depends on how much radiation you’ve absorbed.

“A person with radiation sickness may have a brief period with no apparent illness, followed by the onset of new, more-serious symptoms.

“If you’ve had mild exposure, it may take hours to weeks before any signs and symptoms begin.

“Signs and symptoms are also affected by the type of exposure, such as total or partial body.

“The severity of radiation sickness also depends on how sensitive the affected tissue is.

“For instance, the gastrointestinal system and bone marrow are highly sensitive to radiation.

“But with severe exposure, signs and symptoms can begin minutes to days after exposure.

“Possible symptoms include nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, fever, dizziness and disorientation, weakness and fatigue and bloody vomit.”

The CDC said: “Potassium iodide is a salt of stable iodine that can help block radioactive iodine from being absorbed by the thyroid gland, thus protecting this gland from radiation injury.

“The thyroid gland is the part of the body that is most sensitive to radioactive iodine.

“Potassium iodide blocks radioactive iodine from entering the thyroid.

“When a person takes potassium iodide, the stable iodine in the supplement gets absorbed by the thyroid.

“Because they contain so much stable iodine, the thyroid gland becomes full and cannot absorb any more iodine.”
