Perhaps you've picked up on the hints, but being a celebrity makes life a little different. For example, the average non-famous person is not very likely to find themselves lying back-down on a kitchen counter with one of the most celebrated colorists in the industry doing their hair in the sink. But Lucy Hale, as you know, is not an average non-famous person. And she's not a brunette anymore either.
On the evening of Sunday, September 27, Hale posted a rather unusual photo to her Instagram Stories in which she's apparently getting her hair washed in the kitchen sink, lying atop a dishwasher while wearing a black salon robe and a face covering. She wrote, "Ch ch ch changes," over the photo, tagging colorist and founder of her own eponymous hair-care brand Kristin Ess, who's presumably the person wetting Hale's hair under the faucet.
It wasn't until Monday afternoon that we finally got to see what those changes are. Both Ess and Hale posted a video of the actor showing off her gorgeous new hair color: an auburn shade we've never seen on her before.
"I mean!!!! ? This gets an in-feed post. @lucyhale has had every hair color under the sun EXCEPT red," Ess wrote in the caption for her version of the post. "My lil colorist heart is full and now we officially know this chick looks good with any hair color ???????????? thank you for trusting me to do this (and thank you for Covid testing w me beforehand ?)."
Famous fellow auburnettes couldn't help but comment on the new look. "Ummmm. You know I’m feeling this!" wrote JoAnna Garcia Swisher. Meanwhile, Sarah Hyland commented in all-caps, "LEGIT THOUGHT THIS WAS ME."
Ess sent a selfie Hale took exclusively for Allure, and yep, confirmed: She looks absolutely incredible as a redhead.
Usually seen with dark brown hair (like it was up until yesterday), Hale has also experimented with shades of blonde and even pink, but she's never had a soft yet vibrant orangey-red shade like this before. Kind of hard to believe when we now see how friggin' gorgeous it looks on her. Now I just need to know if Kristin Ess is willing to make another housecall to dye my hair red over my garbage disposal.
