Andy Cohen’s son Ben may only be 4 years old, but he’s already exhibiting “excellent gaydar,” according to the Watch What Happens Live host.
During a conversation at New York City’s 92NY event (per People) with longtime friend Anderson Cooper about his new book, The Daddy Diaries: The Year I Grew Up, Cohen explained that while he may be the only gay and single parent at his son’s nursery school, Ben still seems to understand that his dad is gay.
The Bravo personality expressed gratitude for his friendship with Cooper because, through it, his son sees other gay men in relationships, which has normalized the concept of men being romantically involved for the little boy. “Ben sees Wyatt with two dads, and Ben’s other friend, Adrian, has two dads,” Cohen said, adding, “[He’s] been saying lately, ‘I want another daddy, I want another daddy.’” The dad of two gushed, “It’s so cool to me that he knows that it would be a daddy,” joking, “My son has excellent gaydar, what can I say?”

Feeling the Pressures of Single Parenthood
During the conversation with Cooper, Cohen also admitted, “[I put] extra pressure on myself as a single parent to be everything, and you know that you can’t necessarily [do that].”
The talk show host also spoke about single parenthood during an appearance on Today earlier this month. He explained, “As a single parent, there is the feeling of ‘I need to be there’ and I’m always kicking myself for time not spent with them and trying to dissect what it all means and seeking out parent friends for advice.”
Cohen added that, even with the unique pressures that come with being a single dad, he “wouldn’t change it for the world.”
Deciding to Have Another Baby
The dad of two also explained his motivation for expanding his family from two to three while chatting with Today co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie.
He shared, “I wanted a girl, and also, [I did it] just for Ben.” Cohen continued, “I just wanted him to have a family. I have an older sister — we were always a unit a growing up — and it’s like built-in buddies. I just wanted a family that we could say: ‘This is us.’”
Welcoming His Kids Via Surrogate
Cohen welcomed Ben in February 2019, and his daughter Lucy followed in April 2022. Both children arrived via surrogate, which the Bravo star said he “was fortunate to have the means to be able to” during a prior conversation with Kotb in 2019.
“It can be expensive and complicated, and I just said, ‘I’m going to do this, I’m going to try to do this,’ and I did,” Cohen explained of his decision.
