Co-parenting has been anything but smooth sailing for Brian Austin Green. The Beverly Hills, 90210 star shares son Kassius, 21, with ex Vanessa Marcil; sons Noah, 10, Bodhi, 9, and Journey, 7, with ex-wife Megan Fox; and son Zane Walker Green with his current partner Sharna Burgess. In a new podcast, Green revealed that one of his exes has made co-parenting together challenging.
Brian Austin Green & Vanessa Marcil
In an interview on the Old-ish podcast, per Us Weekly, Green shared that co-parenting with Marcil has been “difficult from the beginning.” Burgess elaborated, revealing that Green suffered from vertigo “for years,” which made it “very difficult” for him to see his eldest son.
“Those years that he wasn’t able to go see Kassisus, Vanessa made no effort to make sure Brian got time with him,” the Dancing with the Stars pro said. “Instead, she painted him as an absent father who chose not to be around for him. And I’m sure that information was fed to Kass, and I can’t imagine how damaging that was for him.” It’s one thing to fight between adults, but bringing the kids into and painting a terrible picture of their dad? Even Kim Kardashian doesn’t do that when her ex Kanye West acts out.
Green, who had to relearn how to walk, talk, and write after his vertigo, got really vulnerable in the podcast interview.
“To then find out after the fact that at the point when I started getting better, that she then was painting it that I had abandoned Kass during that time, when the reality was I was dealing with such brain fog in what I was going through,” he said.
“It would’ve meant so much if Vanessa had decided ‘Hey, I’m going to make sure while you’re going through this that your son can still get to your house and see you,’” Green said. “That would’ve just made an incredible difference in the situation. But that’s not what went down, that’s not how it happened.” That sounds like such a tough situation!
Brian Austin Green & Meghan Fox
Raising kids with Fox, though, is a much different story. Green said in the podcast that he feels “incredibly fortunate” with his co-parent Fox.
“We co=parent really well together,” he said. “When we need to, we communicate really well, we are open to things, we don’t take things personally. It is my goal, and I think it’s her goal as well, that the kids are in as healthy environment as they can be in.”
Even Burgess gets along “really well” with Fox. “We are lucky because we have a great relationship,” Burgess said. “I think what’s so important is we have made that a priority, for us to be able to interact and have a great time.”
Brian Austin Green & Sharna Burgess
For her part, Burgess is thrilled to be in a blended family. She wrote a lengthy, heartfelt post on Zane’s first birthday in July.
“Once upon a time I thought my wish for a big family, lots of babies, a home filled with love, chaos and tiny handprints everywhere just wasn’t ALL possible,” she wrote. “And then suddenly it wasn’t just possible… it was happening.”
She went on, “This little man has been the greatest blessing to our blended family. He has solidified this bond and I think helped the kids trust that this family is forever together. The love in this home is unreal and I had no idea it could be this wonderful. I’m overwhelmed, I’m emotional and I’m ridiculously happy.”
It’s not easy getting along with exes who you share kids with, but Green seems to be doing the best he can. Hopefully Marcil will eventually come around too (at least for her son’s sake).
