Can we just say one thing? We are so over mom shamers. Especially the ones you find in the comment section. Because unless a child is in danger, they need to keep their holier-than-thou thoughts to themselves. So we were beyond annoyed to see that Coco Austin is once again being criticized for how she parents her daughter Chanel, 7.
Austin posted a TikTok on Tuesday of her and Chanel — who people say is totally her dad Ice T’s twin — dancing. The video was set to “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyed Peas.
“Chanel always makes me do these weird dances I just go with it. I stole this from her phone to show you. Lol. #mommydaughter #dynamicduo,” Coco wrote on the post, which she also shared on Instagram.
Commenters with delicate sensibilities seemingly took issue with the part when Austin stuck out her booty for Chanel to slap. The little girl timed the taps perfectly, mouthing “boom boom” at the same time as the Black Eyed Peas.
“It is not appropriate for a little girl or her mother,” one follower wrote.
“Cringy AF,” another said.
“How does a child ‘make’ you do anything? Looks like you had the moves down,” a third said with an eye roll emoji.
Get over yourselves, people. Would a nun find the moves risqué? Sure. But what’s the big deal about a daughter “hitting” her mom’s fully-covered tush as a part of a dance? Plenty of mother-daughter duos do TikTok dances (We’re looking at you, Kim and North), but they don’t get the same kind of criticism.
So we have one question: Why does Coco get all the hate?
During an appearance on the Tamron Hall Show in Nov. 2022, the mom broke down after seeing a surprise video from Ice-T.
“This is a shout-out going to my wife Coco,” the Law & Order: SVU actor said. “You are the most incredible person I’ve ever met, the nicest person I’ve ever met, and the best mother to Chanel that anyone could possibly imagine, alright?”
The TV personality had previously been called out for bathing a then-6-year-old Chanel in a sink, pushing her around in a stroller, letting her wear fake nails, and more, so she got visibly emotional after watching the clip.
“You know, as a mother, you don’t hear that much,” she said, wiping away tears. “…You don’t hear that much from everybody. I have the whole world … and I’m underneath a microscope all the time.”
“And you don’t hear what good you do,” she continued. “You don’t hear the goodness. You just hear the bad. And I know I’m a good mother because I dedicated the last six years of putting everything aside — my career, everything, just for her.”
“You just want a little love, a little respect from people.”
We were so happy to see that so many commenters rallied around Coco to drown out the negativity in her feed with messages like, “I love the relationship you have with your daughter 🥰,” “U guys r so stinkin cute!!!🥰,” and “I’m obsessed with both of you! You’re such a great momma!🥰”
And we will certainly cheers to that!
