Hair loss treatment: The fruity oil shown to promote hair growth and a healthy scalp

Hair loss isn’t the worst thing to happen in life, but that doesn’t mean it’s not significant in the mind of the person it happens to. Help the strands on your scalp with a fruity oil.

Medical News Today highlighted how an essential oil could promote hair growth.

The fruity oil it mentioned was Bergamot oil, found in the rinds of a bergamot orange fruit.

The natural hair loss remedy can be traced to Southeast Asia, but achieved prominence in the town of Bergamo in southern Italy.

By adding two drops of Bergamot essential oil to shampoo, it could be that you’ve got your citrus antidote to hair loss in a bottle.

Alternatively, people have reported anecdotal evidence that an overnight hair mask does wonders.

This can be done by mixing a drop with a carrier oil, massaging it into the scalp, leaving it overnight and rinsing in the morning.

Which carrier oils to use?

Always dilute Bergamot oil by mixing with a suitable carrier oil, such as jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil, almond oil or coconut oil.

This is because – as with any essential oil – irritation may occur if directly used on the scalp or hair.

For people with very sensitive skin, irritation may still occur if you use diluted Bergamot oil.

Signs of an adverse reaction include redness, swelling, itching, hives, blisters, a burning sensation, pain and allergic dermatitis.

Unfortunately, should this occur, you will not be able to use Bergamot oil to promote hair growth. Instead you must discontinue use.

However, many people will not suffer from an adverse reaction to using the oil, and so can benefit from its application to the scalp and hair.

Salon services provider Simply Organic Beauty commented that Bergamot oil can be applied to the scalp to “revive hair burns and encourage hair growth”.

Simply Organic Beauty testify that Bergamot oil promotes hair growth by its stimulant properties directing “blood flow to the scalp”.

This “ensures delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles. As a result, the hair fibers are nourished and begin to grow significantly”.

As the essential oil contains “antioxidants and antimicrobials”, it does more than encourage hair growth.

Due to its properties, Bergamot oil helps shield the hair and scalp “against the damaging effects of oxidative stress”.

And it’s said to strip the hair from dirt and drying chemicals, “revealing healthier, shinier hair”.

But there’s no point having fuller-looking hair with a healthy shine that is dotted with white or grey flakes of dandruff.

Luckily, Bergamot oil’s antimicrobial properties help to “detoxify the scalp of bacteria and fungus that are causing scalp irritation”.

Other essential oils that may help to promote hair growth include jojoba oil and peppermint oil.

Peppermint oil, in particular, has been shown to promote hair growth more effectively than a topical application of minoxidil.

This result was recorded by researchers from the Department of Beauty at Daeduk College, Korea.
