A video of Vice-President Kamala Harris exercising at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.—and keeping her Secret Service detail nice and active in the process—has gone viral. Bobby Tran and his girlfriend were out for a five-mile jog themselves, and had stopped at the memorial to check out the display in Harris’ honor, when they ran into the VP herself, who was running drills up and down the memorial steps with Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.
“We turned around and there she was running the steps and being one with the community,” Tran told Insider. “As we were getting closer, I also noticed somebody that appeared to be Doug Emhoff, too. It wasn’t until later when I looked over the video that I noticed the Second Gentleman at the top, who paused to give her a high five as she finished her run. I thought that was the coolest thing to be so supportive of each other out there.”
Running up and down stairs, coupled with long walks, became a part of the couple’s fitness regime when access to gyms was limited during quarantine, Emhoff told Men’s Health last year. “I was like, ‘Oh man, I don’t want to be on that stationary bike’… Then I realized there was an internal staircase in our building, it’s about ten flights, so I started running that. It was old school,” he said. “Kamala and I like to talk walks, six, seven mile walks. Now when I see stairs, I run up them.”

This is not the first time a video capturing Harris mid-jog has gone viral. Back in November, a member of Harris’ team filmed her on the phone to now-President Joe Biden while out on a run that got cut short as news broke that they had won the 2020 election, prompting the words “We did it, Joe” to be heard around the world.
