Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their children have been living in the United States since January 2020, when the couple stepped down as senior working members of the royal family. They moved to California, where Markle grew up, and now have a home in Montecito. The family of four is living a mostly-private life (at least compared to if they were still in England) at their home in “The Golden State,” but they made a public appearance this weekend that has gotten a lot of attention.
Tuesday marked the Fourth of July, and Prince Harry took his daughter, Princess Lilibet, 2 to a local Independence Day parade. Close-up photos show that the Duke of Sussex was wearing a baseball cap — a nod to America’s favorite pastime — and his [apparently] patriotic little girl wore a ruffly blue dress, white knee-high socks (how cute!), and red shoes. Her red hair was in pigtails and pulled back with blue clips, and her dad held her close, snuggling into the toddler. The whole thing was just too adorable to handle. Soon after, Meghan Markle and Prince Archie, 4 were seen in faraway snapshots crouching down by Prince Harry and Princess Lilibet. Given the family’s appearance (see photos HERE) and Princess Lilibet’s outfit, it’s clear the royals really do consider the USA their home.
This Sighting Was A Rarity
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex — like many celebrities — do their best to keep their children out of the spotlight.
“We’ve been really conscious of protecting our kids as best as we can and also understanding the role that they play in this really historic family,” Markle said in her and Harry’s Netflix docuseries. Harry agreed, saying, “As a dad and as parents, I think consent is a really key piece to this. That if you have children, it should be your consent to what you share.”
Season Of Celebrations
Exactly a month before this parade, on June 4, the Sussexes celebrated Princess Lilibet’s second birthday. People were surprised when the royal family didn’t release a formal happy birthday message in honor of the toddler, but a palace source said there has “never been protocol” for posting birthday messages on “official channels.”
King Charles III reportedly planned to give the young royal a present that would mean more to her than a generic tweet. If sources are correct, the monarch gifted her a special Lilibet-inspired playhouse.
Special Gifts Galore
Prince Archie celebrated his 4th birthday May, and he also received a thoughtful birthday present. A local business owner gave the young prince a bicycle with training wheels. In early June, the business owner received a special thank you note from Harry and Meghan.
“On behalf of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, please accept their sincere thanks for the thoughtful gift you sent to Prince Archie for his fourth birthday,” the note from The Office of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex read. “The bike has brought much joy, and is most appreciated by the family.”
