Ryan Reynolds has officially graded himself on his parenting skills – and he’s earned some decently high marks. The actor and father-of-three told ET on Monday that, when it comes to being a mom and dad, he and Blake Lively are “probably like a brown belt at this point.”
Reynolds, who has been busy doing press for his new movie The Adam Project, went on to offer relatable insight into his goals as a parent.
“I think I would be psychotic if I didn’t want my children to at least, you know, try to do something right and with integrity,” he said. “But my kids are 7, 5, and 2, so I’m not like, ‘You gotta get better grades!’ I mean, I’m just happy if they finished a bowl of cereal.”
Yup, we have to agree. A finished breakfast is > everything at this point.

Despite hectic work schedules, Reynolds and Lively are big believers in keeping the family together as much as possible — which makes them both black belts in our book.
“I try to be as present as possible,” Reynolds said in an interview with Access in 2020. ‘We don’t split up. I shoot movies and my wife shoots movies and we travel all over the place and we just all go together. That’s been the best part of it, we really don’t spend a lot of time apart. I get to spend a lot of time with my girls.”
Reynolds added that he loves being a “girl Dad” to his kids, James, Betty and Inez. “I have three daughters which I never in a million years would have imagined,” he said. “I have three brothers…for me to have three daughters is just such a ride and I love every second of it.”
He’s loving the family time so much that he plans to keep it going, well after the trio moves out of the house. “When they decide to go away to college, I’m going to be that guy, ‘That’s so funny, I’m going to NYU, too!’” Reynolds told Extra in 2019. “I’m going to be so needy. I love being around them — it’s the best thing in the world.”
