Celebrity Baby Names That Have Us Seeing Stars

Ever since your baby was just a twinkle in your eye, you’ve probably been thinking about their name. Maybe you want something powerful for your little cutie or even a tad vintage. But if you are having trouble searching for inspiration, all you need to do is look up.

Like Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, who named both their 6-year-old daughter and their newborn daughter names that shine brighter than the universe. Some celebrities have obviously planetary names for their children, like Jupiter, while others have more subtle references to astronomical ties, like North.

Celebrity parents have even been inspired by the names of ancient gods and goddesses when naming their little bundles of joy, like Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian’s daughter Alexis Olympia. How can you not grow up feeling confident with a name like that?

  • Scarlett Johansson & Colin Jost: Cosmo

    Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost were inspired by the galaxies above for their son named Cosmo Jost. Cosmo is a Greek name meaning “order,” and it’s also associated with “cosmos” which means “universe.” Johansson is also mom to daughter Rose Dorothy Dauriac with Romain Dauriac. 

    In a Sept. 2022 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Johansson opened up about their baby’s name. “We just threw a bunch of letters together,” she joked, adding. “No, but I just really thought it was so charming and our friends all liked it.”

    One person who wasn’t so sure? Jost’s mom. “Colin’s mom had a little bit of a harder time with it. She kept suggesting other versions of it for a while and I was like, ‘No he’s already out, it’s past that time’.”

    The stars were a big influence in Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s baby naming. The duo are parents to daughters Luna Simone Stephens and Esti Maxine Stephens, as well as to a son Miles Theodore Stephens. Luna means “moon” and it is one of the names of Artemis, the moon goddess. Esti means “star,” according to Nameberry. These celestial names are so beautiful!

    Emily Ratajkowski and Sebastian Bear-McClard named their son Sylvester Apollo Bear. In Latin, Apollo means “god of the sun.” It’s also the name of NASA’s Apollo program that led to astronauts walking on the moon. Sylvester, on the other hand, means “of the woods” or “forest.”

    Madonna is also mom to Lourdes Leon, Rocco Ritchie, David Banda, and Mercy James.
